Our new young writer Jacob Thomas tells us how coaching work, helped with post GCSE boredom.
During the summer I have participated in a few different coaching roles as a 16 year old looking to broaden his skill set and gain new confidence.
I thought I’d share what a great idea and experience it was, to get involved in coaching for a bit of extra cash over the summer.
After doing their GCSEs, a lot of puzzled 16 year olds wrestle with boredom and confusion as to how they should fill what is essentially a 3 month long gap.
But, I found a solution, many sports camps are run over the summer months in order to keep children active and entertained, which opens a gateway of opportunity for both activity and employment for those who would’ve been bored stiff during this period, like me.
Earlier this year, I contacted premier soccer coaching, a brilliant footballing organisation which run a summer camp at Alderman White school during August.
I just wanted to show an interest in helping to coach, as I had previously been to the same football camp when I was younger, and therefore knew what an exciting camp premier soccer coaching run.
I’ll admit, it was a week of relatively hard work in the sun all day, but what better way to gain confidence and coaching skills whilst feeling part of a team.
Personally, I find coaching to be one of the most rewarding ways to spend your time, and have met a lot of great people whilst doing it.
I would recommend it to anybody.
