A portrait of the Queen has become the newest addition to Beeston’s growing street art collection.
The portrait, similar to those seen on stamps, was unveiled on a Virgin Media utility box close to the Star Inn and the transport interchange. The purple and blue design also states “RIP” for Her Majesty.
It was created by artist Buber Nebz – real name Dan Smith – as part of the Beeston street art scheme, which has been run by the Beeston and District Civic Society since 2018.
The project has seen 47 other pieces of art being installed across the town, which includes the several large murals around the back of the Arc Cinema opposite the Tesco supermarket.
The artist, who is originally from Loughborough, was commissioned to create the piece as a tribute to the late monarch. Buber Nebz told the BBC that: “It was a really nice piece to do.
“There was a bit of pressure to get it right. I pencil it out and then I use spray paints with different nozzles.
“It’s just about layering it up like a jigsaw puzzle.”
The piece took around five hours to complete.
